FOX Cancels 'Raising Hope' After 4 Seasons
After four seasons and over 80 episodes, FOX has decided that the Chances have run out of chances.
That dreadful pun aside, the writing has been on the wall for some time. First, FOX decided to move the show from its cushy Tuesday night slot, to the out of the way timeslot of Fridays at 9 p.m. Not that moving to Friday is always a death sentence (shows like 'Bones,' 'Grimm,' and 'Hawaii Five-0' have all done great since making the jump), but it was hardly a vote of confidence.
Then, FOX premiered freshman comedy 'Enlisted' at 9:30, and when both shows tanked, the network opted to move Enlisted to 9:00, making it obvious which show was seen as the priority. Really though, the biggest problem 'Raising Hope' faced was that its audience totally abandoned it this season.
Season 3 averaged a healthy enough 1.6 in the 18-49 demo, and nearly 4 million total weekly viewers. Season 4 has (so far) averaged an abysmal 0.7 demo, and just over 2 million weekly viewers. That's a nearly 50% year-to-year drop in total audience levels, and a near 60% drop in the 18-49 demo. Yikes.
So, as we prepare to bid farewell to 'Raising Hope,' fans can at least take solace in the fact that 88 episodes is enough to get the show a profitable syndication deal, meaning that Greg Garcia's hilariously offbeat creation is in no danger of fading into obscurity any time soon.
'Raising Hope's two-episode series finale is now set to air on Friday, April 4 at 9/8c.
